Newborn posing is safety-first, image second — every good pose either has a parent's hand supporting the baby (visible or later cloned out) or a spotter within reach. Here are 10 safe, tested poses that work in both studio and in-home lifestyle sessions.
Safety first
Never leave a newborn unsupported in any pose, prop, or surface. If a pose requires the appearance of no support (hands, hanging wrap), it must be composited from two frames — one with the baby, one with the parent's hand — and the parent's hand must be there in both.

FAQ
When should you shoot newborn photos?
Days 5–14 for classic curled/sleeping shots. After 3 weeks, babies straighten out and are harder to pose but wonderful for lifestyle sessions.
Is newborn posing safe?
Only when the baby is supported by a spotter (parent's hand within frame or Photoshop composite from two frames). Never leave a baby unsupported in a prop, on any surface, or in a pose that puts weight on the neck.
What lighting is best for newborn photography?
One large soft source — a north-facing window or 90cm+ softbox — placed above the baby's head, angled down. Never flash directly at a newborn's face.
